Works of Dominik Jakšič are composed in a synthesis of the tradition and modernism, which is being shown in the unique expression and lyricism. Born in 1995, Jakšič is a composer who always wants to tell a story to the listeners, when his music is giving off universal emotions.
Dominik served as music director and conductor of the Academic Choir Celje and three years as an artistic director of the festival "Music afternoon with Anton Lajovic". As pianist he has been collaborating with Slovene soprano Maja Triler in the awarded duet "PerArtem Youth Artists" and held concerts in SNG Maribor and Slovene Philharmonic hall in Ljubljana.
Compositions of Dominik Jakšič have been performed on many stages in Slovenia and across Europe. Opus includes many works, from lieders, chamber music, piano compositions, concertos, to choral and orchestral works. Several choral works ("Cantate Domino", "Magnificat") have been ranked very high on composition competitions of the various choral festivals. "The Blackbird", "Petite Suite" and "Intermezzo" have been considered as the obligate pieces of the various instrumental competitions. As a musicologist, Dominik have held lectures on the Slovene national radio ARS, Italian radio RAI, at the European Piano Teachers Association Slovenia yearly meeting and wrote articles for papers Družina, Delo and VirKla. Currently, he is working on the biography of the significant Slovene composer, Lucijan Marija Škerjanc.
Dominik studied composition at the Academy of music in Ljubljana before heading to further studies at the Prague Conservatory. He has started music education in home town, learning theory and piano by the parents and later also violin, accordeon and vocal technique. Beside formal studies, Dominik had a privilege to receive knowledge from such prominent artists like John Corigliano, Miloš Orson Štědroň, Marton Illes, Gary Carpenter, Vito Žuraj, Ursula Oppens, Thomas A. Troge, Berislav Šipuš, Davorin Kempf, Egon Mihajlovič, Marko Mihevc, Ante Knešaurek, Ambrož Čopi, and others. His first composition mentor was maestro Mojmir Sepe, who encouraged young Dominik to create his own music path.
His compositions are published by the Slovene composers society and the Universal Edition via Scodo. Besides his musical activities, Dominik holds a pilot license and love to make photographs.
